Tim Burton
Tim Burton is an film director, producer, writer and a stop motion artist. His films are quite dark and gothic that normally come under the fantasy or "quirky" horror genre. He is famous for films such as Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sweeney Todd, Dark Shadows, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.
He mad his first short film when he was at Disney in 1982. It was a six minute black and white stop motion film called Vincent that was based on a poem. This was then followed by Burtons first live action production, Hansel and Gretel, for the Disney channel. In 1984, Burton was dropped by Disney because of his film, Frankenweenie, being too dark and scary for children.
Tim did two Batman films in 1989 and 1992 which were hugely expensive and was entrusted to Tim due to the success of his supernatural comedy film, Beetlejuice. The first Batman film turned out to be one of the most successful films ever, which gave him power within Hollywood due to his original and adventurousness work, while the second Batman film (Batman Returns) was a much quirkier and darker film, which reflected the creative freedom that Tim had.
In 1996, Burton produced, with Selick directing, a fantasy musical that was a combination of live action and stop motion footage which, in the typical Tim Burton style, contained parts of a very scary nature for kids. It was based on the Roal Dahl book, James and the Giant Peach. It was praised by critics and was nominated for the best original musical or comedy score.
